Research interests

We use Paramecium, a ciliated unicellular eukaryote, as a model system to study problems in cell biology. The recent sequencing of the genome of this organism adds genomic tools to the genetic, biochemical and cytological techniques developed for many years in the team.

Our activities are focused in two directions:

- In the field of cell biology, we study the assembly and duplication of basal bodies and associated cytoskeletal structures and ciliogenesis.

- In the field of genomics, after our success in stimulating and coordinating the Paramecium genome project with whole genome shotgun sequencing at Genoscope, we are developing, with several collaborators, downstream global approaches: transcriptome, proteome and functional analyses of genes by RNAi, development of a model organism database, ParameciumDB, which integrates the genome sequence with genetic data (Stock collection, RNAi results).
